ALABAMA HISTORIC IRONWORKS COMMISSION
MINUTES
May 23, 2021
The Alabama Historic Ironworks Commission (AHIC) met Sunday May 23, 2021 at the Event Center at
Tannehill Ironworks Historical State Park. Chairman Doug Behm called the meeting to order at 2:01 p.m.
Members present were: Doug Behm, Jeremy Wright, Jerry Tingle, Martin Everse, Stacy Hathorn, Jack
Bergstresser, Jim Day, Wilton Price, Jerry Pow, Clarence Nevels, and Walter Anderton
Staff members present were Lisa Carroll and Brian Smith
Doug Behm asked that Jerry Pow serve as Parliamentarian
Wilton Price gave the invocation.
Approval of Minutes:
Jerry Pow motioned that the minutes from the February 28, 2021 be approved. Jim Day seconded. All
approved.
New Business:
Doug Behm mentioned an update on the ADA compliance and lawsuit. The inspector from Evan Terry
spent two weeks at the park inspecting all facilities and complaints mentioned in the lawsuit with
Tropeano. The attorney on our behalf, Trey Bundrick, will give us the results as soon as they are given.
Park Update:
Lisa Carroll stated that the park was in excellent financial shape. Lisa Carroll gave an update on
financials. COVID 19 affected many areas in the park. Facility rentals were down as well as weddings.
This was to be expected since you could not gather. Camping was at record numbers. Gratefully it was
busy the whole year.
Jefferson County repaved the back area in Farley Field. They also made some improvements with
drainage issues in Farley in a few areas. ALDOT also has donated some materials for roads.
Lisa Carroll stated that beginning the first week in August Brasher Utilities will begin tying in Farley Field
to our sewer. Doing this will eliminate the septic tanks and the need to have them pumped every week.
The Edwards House will be painted, as well as all the rotten wood being replaced. Metal roofs are going
to be placed on the Blower House, Sneed, as well as the Corn crib. The Hayes House at Brierfield will be
painted and a new metal roof on it as well.
Jerry Tingle asked about the cost of fiberoptics being ran in the park. At this time, Lisa Carroll said we
are still awaiting AT&T to complete its survey. Commissioner Tingle would like to be able to help.
Commissioner Tingle also gave a contact through Tuscaloosa County to ask about used vehicles. Brian
Smith said he would contact them.
Jeremy Wright stated that there was an outstanding fee owed on fire dues on the Forever Wild
Property. Stacy Hathorne gave a contact of Patty McCurdy that might be able to help. Lisa Carroll said
she would contact them and resolve.
Next meeting will be in person on July 11, 2021 at 2:00p.m.

February 28, 2021
The Alabama Historic Ironworks Commission (AHIC) met via conference call on Sunday February 28,
2021. Chairman Doug Behm called the meeting to order at 2:15 p.m.
Members present on the call were: Doug Behm, Jeremy Wright, Josh Dyer, Martin Everse, Stacy
Hathorn, Jack Bergstresser, Jim Day, Jerry Tingle, Jerry Pow, Johnny Curry
Staff members on the call were Lisa Carroll and Brian Smith
Doug Behm asked that Jerry Pow serve as Parliamentarian
Approval of Minutes:
Jerry Pow motioned that the minutes from the April 3, 2020 emergency meeting be approved. Marty
Everse seconded. All approved.
New Business:
Doug Behm stated that the Commission had underwent a very thorough audit. The state examiner’s
office found that the Commission had not filed the fee changes properly through the Alabama
Legislative Committee. Lisa Carroll state that all fees had been previously voted on and approved they
just were not filed correctly. Ms. Carroll asked members to read the document titled fee changes that
was emailed to them. Johnny Curry made a motion to accept the fee changes. Jeremy Wright
seconded.
Lisa Carroll stated that the food contract with 24/7 Concessions expired. Ms. Carroll was wanting to
replace the original contract with a food supplier that supplied the whole park to a food contract with
multiple vendors who can supply the park and events. Jerry Pow made a motion to remove the current
food contract and apply a new one with different vendors. Stacy Hathorn seconded. All approved.
Park Update:
Lisa Carroll stated that the park was in excellent financial shape. Ms. Carroll stated the improvements
made in the park(s) throughout the last year. Ms. Carroll mentioned the new dump station,
improvements in cabins, gate replacement, lighting upgrades as well as the roads in Farley Field.
Meeting was adjourned at 2:33 pm.

This meeting was held in order to give Parks Superintendent Lisa Carroll and or Commission Chairperson permission to pursue a loan through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act.
Jerry Pow motioned to give Parks Superintendent Lisa Carroll and or Commission Chairperson permission to apply for a loan to the maximum amount allowed by law under the CARES Act.
Walter Anderton seconded that motion.
